About Citizens4Water

Citizens4Water aims to establish a global inventory of citizen science initiatives for hydrology and water management. The inventory consolidates knowledge from existing projects, supports the development or enhancement of citizen science projects, and identifies gaps in hydrology and water management practices.

Context

The project is coordinated by Scivil, the Flemish citzien science center (Belgium). It takes place within the context of the ninth phase of the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme of Unesco, and is funded by the Department of Economy, Science and Innovation (EWI) of the Flemish Governement.

The repository of citizen science initiatives

This project entails the development of a global inventory of citizen science initiatives in hydrology and water management. The repository will (a) facilitate researchers and project initiators to develop new or optimize current citizen science projects in hydrology and water management, (b) identify gaps in current citizen science water management practices and (c) allow policy makers to consolidate knowledge from relevant existing citizen science projects from around the world.

3

By and for the community

Using a collaborative approach engaging international stakeholders active within the citizen science hydrology and water management sector, the project will result in:
- the development of the repository including a governance structure;
- the curated world-wide submission of best practices in the repository;
- and the dissemination and promotion of the repository for continued use.
